To be honest 2007 has been a really tough year. Illness in family, including myself. Challenge is to put it mildly. However, I appreciate your blog post and your last newsletter article. A couple of years from now I intend to look back on this and consider it a valuable learning experience. I've done so with som rough experiences in the past and really consider them blessings in disguise. So thinking that way, I reflect on 2007 as extemely challenging yet somewaht proud that I am still here. Perhaps just being here I can consider myself sucessful?

I second Charlys about denying yourself creative fulfillment..and I'm "only" 32. In 2007 I finally for the first time started my own band. I've always been a decent singer and musician , but have neve taken the step to do something with it. We may not be the greatest band, but just by having taken action and creating an outlet for creativity and expression, I've become more focused and inspired at work. I've probably been more fun to deal with as a person too. And I find inspiration constantly for new songs in good and bad stuff that happens. In that regard, 2007 has been an inspiring year.

I will be trying to apply your singing techniques to all areas of my life for the upcoming year--relax and release and let it flow!
In the past I have been too controlling, too inhibited, and too self-conscious. Those habits have prevented me from trying anything in which I make a fool of myself. And by the way, Per, I am grateful that I'm taking your online course because I would be very uncomfortable making funny faces at you in person.
In reflection,I realize that I have been denying myself creative fullment. I am 46 yrs. old and have decided that I have wasted too much time cowering behind my inhibitions--maybe it's part of the midlife crises. But I want to discover my talents and my potential and allow myself the freedom to enjoy life more fully. Thanks for your words of encouragement and wisdom.

A year ago I used to get hoarse after every single gig. Now I seldom do. I might be tired but I've learned to feel the difference, and I can easily go again the next day. Frankly, it's a helluva a lot more fun to sing when I'm not worrying about not having a voice the next day or if I'm creating some permanent damage. I was probably always holding back before,(trying to protect, but making it worse probably). I've been having a lot more fun on stage and I've also been writing a lot of songs lately too. That's been really cool. You're the man, Per. Couldn't have done it without you.

When I look back on 2007, I can reflect on the negative and positive things that went on this year. The negative things I can reflect on are my mistakes that I've made in 2007. I have learned from my mistakes. The Positive things I have learned in 2007 are to stay confident not just in life but in my singing. I learned a lot this year about my voice. I learned that you must warm up before you sing. Drink lots of water everyday and get plenty of rest. Don't over rehearse your with your voice or you will damage your vocal cords and larynx. I learned that I should do down warm ups after a performance. I also learned that my voice is my instrument and to over use it so much where it gets to the point that I can;t sing or talk (Try to stay silent as much as possible when not singing or talking to anyone. which also means no loud screaming at events). I learned how to breath properly. I breath with my shoulders down but from the diaphram. My most experience with my sing from 2007 was when I performed at the Apollo Theater with my Praise Team Worshipers from my church for a charity event. It was web cast. I had a good time. That was the best experience of my life. I was nervous and I didn't go to rehersals because I was working, but I made it to the show. It was at night. I'll never forget that experience. Thank you for giving me advice about my voice and not making excuses when it comes to things in life. HAPPY NEW YEAR, PER!!!

When I look back on 2007 I can certainly see a lot of things that I wish would have gone better, especially on the financial side. On the other hand, I feel much more confident in several areas, and one of them is singing! You have really helped me, Per. I've been enjoying singing in a choir, and being able to be part of a group like that to create gorgeous music as well as the camradarie has been invaluable. The feeling from that has opened me up in many different areas. I'm not as hard on myself as I used to be, I just feel freer. I feel postive that I can get the finances on track in 2008. Happy New Year, Per (and everybody else)
